Hand gilded wallpaper in my internship

For about 3000 years ago gold leaf was used in decorating artifacts in Tutankhamons grave in Egypt, and the technique spread by ancient Greece to Europe as we know it today.

Squares of gold and silver leaf are hammered ontill a thousandth of millimeter and so thin you can see through it.

Heidi Zilmer has revitalized the old technique and now uses it on contemporary wallpaperdesigns. During my internship with Heidi Zilmer I used silver and brass in these designs.

As a student in textile design and as an intern at http://www.zilmers.com  it has been a privilege to follow and partake in the development of the exhibition “New Danish Modern”. We have folded and dyed more than 250 bespoke wallpapers, to create a visual coherence for the exhibition New Danish Modern, one of the main events of the European Capital of Culture in 2017.
